The UNICEF Regional Office, as part of its digital communication activities, is looking for an intern to support multimedia production activities, social media management and information management. By joining the UNICEF Communications team, the intern will have the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and gain practical experience in a dynamic work environment. Adaptability and the ability to learn quickly in various technical and creative environments while producing quality work under tight deadlines are key attributes expected of the successful candidate.
How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the Communication Officer (Digital and Multimedia) and with the support of the other staff of the Advocacy and Communication team,
The Intern Will …
- Support the documentation of events and programmatic interventions of UNICEF at the regional office of the West and Central Africa Region. (Pictures and Videos)
- Produce visuals and graphics on various and varied themes according to global, regional and national priorities and meeting program needs.
- Sort photo/video banks on UNICEF events and programmatic interventions.
- Add captions for useful formats for the WeShare platform.
- Create interactive visuals for social media.
- Do information monitoring in order to collect information to compile it in a newsletter
- Accomplish any other task according to the needs of the section.
Supervision and coaching
- The intern will be under the direct supervision of the Communication Officer (Digital and Multimedia) and will work closely with colleagues from other sections, depending on the tasks assigned.
- The intern will benefit from close coaching from the supervisor, on the technical, methodological, and work ethics levels, as well as in terms of initiation to the mandate and work of UNICEF and adherence to its values and principles during his internship
- The intern and the supervisor will establish a Work Plan with specific deliverables that will contribute directly to achieving the objectives of the communication section.
- At the end of the internship, the intern should have the satisfaction of having made a significant contribution to the work of UNICEF Regional Office. The evaluation of the work plan will also be made at the end of the internship period.

Education
- A University degree in Master Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Social Policy, Broadcast Media other related field or any other university degree.
- One year of relevant work experience in the field of communication is an asset.
- Be enrolled in an advance/undergraduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years.
- Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
- Have recently graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability in communication, writing, media and marketing,
- Understanding in developing and implementing media strategies for non-profit organizations and/or private sector companies, tracking their success and analyzing results,
- Demonstrated ability in writing stories for different audiences using different channels,
- Demonstrated aptitude in writing briefing notes and press releases and similar communication content,
- Proven ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities within specified timeframes, and consistently achieve project goals,
- Proven understanding of digital strategies,
- High-level communication skills, including engaging in public communication,
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment,
- Quick building of rapport with individuals and groups, maintaining an effective network across the organization and externally,
- Understanding of UN and UNICEF programmes and policies is an asset.
Additional Experience
Relevant background in Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in French and English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish), Portuguese or a local language is an asset.
